Hafnia and Mercuria form a new oil tanker joint venture pool
Hafnia, a tanker giant under the BW Group, and Mercuria, a commodity trader, have formed a new tanker consortium called the Hafnia Panamax Pool.
These two companies will initially operate 10 ships with an average age of 13 years in the United States, Europe, and the Far East. The cooperation plan was launched in March with the aim of narrowing the gap in the rapid aging of oil tankers.
Larry Johnson, Global Head of Mercuria Air Transport and Shipping, said, "As charterers, we have noticed the shortage of tonnage in this segment of the market and are pleased to collaborate with industry leading tanker owners and pool operators Hafnia to meet this demand."
S ø ren Skibdal Winther, Vice President of Business at Hafnia, said, "Through this collaboration, we look forward to leveraging our comprehensive expertise and believe that customers and partners will see immediate and significant advantages.".
Last August, Mercuria also teamed up with other companies to establish the Mercury Pool, a joint venture pool for Aframax tankers.
